Why Sprout?
Here are just a few of many reasons to sprout:
- It's healthy
- Sprouting gives you a great source of nutrients especially during the winter months: great protein, fiber and chlorophyll source!
- It's inexpensive, convenient and easy to grow at home by anyone
- Fresh all year round!
- Reduces inflammation, detoxifies the body and helps to control hot flashes!
Uses:
- garnish your soups or stews just before serving
- Add them to your salads, sandwiches and smoothies
Try and sprout them yourself, it's fun for adults and kids! Here is a simple way to sprout:
- You can buy a large mason jar and in health food store they sell a sprouting strainer to go with it (works well for this process) or you can use a mesh top with an elastic to hold it on the top of the jar!
- In a large mason jar soak your beans overnight.
- Drain them and rinse a couple of times a day.
- When their tails start to grow to about an inch long then they are ready to eat!
- Store in the fridge
*Sprouts can also be found in any health food store and some grocery stores! There is a wide variety of beans, seeds and grains to choose from but here are some of my favorites that are easy to sprout:
- mung beans
- peas
- lentils
- sunflower seeds
