Why Sprout?

Here are just a few of many reasons to sprout:

  • It's healthy
  • Sprouting gives you a great source of nutrients especially during the winter months: great protein, fiber and chlorophyll source!
  • It's inexpensive, convenient and easy to grow at home by anyone
  • Fresh all year round!
  • Reduces inflammation, detoxifies the body and helps to control hot flashes!

Uses:

  • garnish your soups or stews just before serving
  • Add them to your salads, sandwiches and smoothies

Try and sprout them yourself, it's fun for adults and kids!  Here is a simple way to sprout:

  • You can buy a large mason jar and in health food store they sell a sprouting strainer to go with it (works well for this process) or you can use a mesh top with an elastic to hold it on the top of the jar!
  • In a large mason jar soak your beans overnight.
  • Drain them and rinse a couple of times a day.
  • When their tails start to grow to about an inch long then they are ready to eat!
  • Store in the fridge

*Sprouts can also be found in any health food store and some grocery stores! There is a wide variety of beans, seeds and grains to choose from but here are some of my favorites that are easy to sprout:

  • mung beans
  • peas
  • lentils
  • sunflower seeds
